TBR, DNF, buddy read, readathon and other terms explained plainly.
Terms help describe reading habits, but they should not create pressure or replace your own categories.

| TBR | a list of books to be read |
| DNF | a book deliberately not finished |
| Buddy read | reading the same book with another person over an agreed period |
| Readathon | a short event focused on more intensive reading |
| Backlist | older titles by an author or publisher still in circulation |
| Mood reading | choosing a book according to current mood |
| Reading slump | a period when starting or continuing books feels difficult |
| ARC | an advance review copy |
